Archbishop Carroll High School in Dayton, Ohio, announced the dismissal of head football coach Mike Pomfret just weeks before the 2026‑27 season was slated to begin.
The decision followed an on‑field incident that unfolded during a practice session at Ohio Dominican University, a detail that school officials have kept private.
Pomfret was removed not only from his coaching post but also from his role as a teacher at the school, ending a brief stint that produced a 1‑9 record in the previous campaign.
A new interim leader
Mitch Weitz, a Carroll graduate who has been an assistant coach and the boys bowling head coach since 2023, was appointed interim head coach in the wake of Pomfret’s exit.
Principal Matt Sableski confirmed the personnel changes and voiced confidence in Weitz’s leadership, emphasizing the school’s commitment to continuity as the new season approaches.
The Patriots are set to open their schedule on August 21 at Stebbins High School, and the program hopes to rally around the new coaching direction.
