A new summer soccer camp is set to take place in Eugene, Oregon, from August 17 through 20, offering youngsters a chance to sharpen their game at the soon‑to‑be home of Sporting Cascades FC.
The camp will be led by two experienced coaches: Darren Sawatzky, the most decorated coach in USL League One history and 2022 Coach of the Year, and Conner Cappelletti, who guided Lane United FC to its joint best‑ever record in 2019.
Sawatzky, a former Portland Timbers player, previously developed future U.S. Men’s National Team stars Jordan Morris and DeAndre Yedlin while coaching the Seattle Sounders’ U23 side.
Participants will receive a complimentary FIFA‑approved soccer ball courtesy of Sporting Cascades FC, and will take part in drills, small‑sided games and skill competitions designed to build fundamentals.
Registration remains open until August 7, giving families a narrow window to secure a spot at the Civic Park sessions.
Coaching Legacy
Both coaches bring extensive playing and mentoring experience that spans professional and developmental levels, underscoring the camp’s high‑quality instruction.
The initiative reflects a broader effort to nurture local talent ahead of Sporting Cascades FC’s professional debut slated for 2027, positioning the club as a community anchor in the region.
Community Impact
Beyond skill development, the camp aims to foster a love for the sport and strengthen ties between youth, families and the emerging professional club.
