Casey Apetrei has been named associate head coach of the Baton Rouge Community College men’s basketball program, bringing a decade of proven leadership to the role.
His coaching journey spans multiple junior colleges and Division I programs, including Lee College, where he compiled a 93‑41 record and secured two Region XIV titles, and LSU‑Alexandria, a stint that culminated in a NAIA Final Four appearance.
At Lee College he recruited a series of standout players such as De’Vion Lavergne, DaCannon Wickware and Josh Smith, all of whom earned All‑American honors and later pursued professional careers. He also mentored Kae’Ron Baker, the Red River Athletic Conference Player of the Year, and helped develop Damian Jones and Jared Sam, who have competed in the NBA G League.
A Proven Builder of Talent
Apetrei’s educational background includes a bachelor’s degree in General Studies from Southeastern Louisiana University and a master’s in Teacher Leadership from Lamar University, reflecting his dual commitment to coaching and academic development. He recently returned from a basketball coaching tour in Croatia, where he worked with American college players against professional teams.
The appointment is expected to sharpen the competitive edge of BRCC’s program and continue a tradition of producing elite talent that can transition to higher levels of play.
