A Legacy of Longhorn Greats
The 2027 College Football Hall of Fame ballot has been unveiled, and two former University of Texas standouts are among the names that will shape the class. Casey Hampton, a dominant defensive tackle, and Colt McCoy, a record‑setting quarterback, are listed among the candidates, drawing attention for their lasting impact on the sport.
Hampton’s collegiate dominance at Texas was matched by a successful NFL career that culminated in two Super Bowl championships with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He earned two first‑team All‑American honors, was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, and appeared in five Pro Bowls, cementing his reputation as one of the most formidable linemen of his era.
McCoy, meanwhile, is celebrated as a legendary figure in Longhorn history. A two‑time consensus first‑team All‑American and Heisman Trophy finalist, he holds the NCAA record for the most career wins by a quarterback. His professional journey spanned 13 NFL seasons with several franchises, and he has been inducted into multiple halls of fame, reflecting a career that blended college excellence with pro longevity.
The upcoming class will also feature other distinguished Longhorn alumni on the ballot, including Earl Campbell, Bobby Layne, Bud McFadin, Tommy Nobis, Hines Ward, and Michael Huff. Their collective contributions span decades and have left an indelible mark on both collegiate and professional football.
The 2027 inductees are slated to be announced in early 2027, with plans to honor them at the 69th NFF Annual Awards Dinner and through on‑campus salutes later that year. The National Football Foundation & College Football Hall of Fame, along with partners such as the University of Texas and the Pittsburgh Steelers, will coordinate the celebrations, underscoring the Hall’s role in preserving the sport’s rich heritage.
