Furman University announced the addition of Casey Long to its basketball coaching staff for the 2026‑27 season, appointing him as an assistant under head coach Bob Richey. Richey praised Long’s basketball knowledge, relationships and work ethic as key assets for the program.
Coaching pedigree
Long arrives after four seasons as an assistant at Louisiana State, where he helped shape a program that climbed seven spots in conference play and secured a top‑ranked transfer portal class and a top‑25 freshman cohort.
Prior to LSU, he spent five years alongside Matt McMahon at Murray State, contributing to four Ohio Valley Conference regular‑season titles and three tournament championships during a five‑year stretch that saw the Racers win 121 games.
His player development résumé includes guiding KJ Williams to the 2,000‑point, 1,000‑rebound milestone and mentoring NBA‑bound talents such as Ja Morant, Jonathan Stark, Shaq Buchanan, Tevin Brown and Justice Hill.
Long’s playing days at Chattanooga produced over 1,000 points, 450 rebounds and 350 assists, culminating in a 2005 SoCon Championship and a political science degree, and he remains married to Co’chea Rivera with two daughters, Catalina and Camila.
