Casper Pride’s ‘Big Gay Day’ Offers Free Books and Baseball Tickets to the Community

Local bookstores and the Casper Spuds join forces with the nonprofit to celebrate diversity and support regional charities

Casper Pride is set to host its annual “Big Gay Day” on June 26 at Mike Lansing Field in downtown Casper, turning the city’s heart into a celebration of inclusion.

A Community Celebration

The event, organized by the nonprofit Casper Pride, invites residents to enjoy free books and baseball game tickets as part of a broader effort to foster diversity and community support.

Local bookstores — Wind City Books, Bookin' It, and The Dreadful Bookshop — will each set aside a selection of titles that can be taken home without charge, simply by mentioning “Casper Pride” at checkout.

Partnerships Fuel the Event

The Casper Spuds, the city’s minor‑league baseball team, are contributing vouchers that grant attendees free entry to the game and a complimentary ballpark meal. The team’s mascot, Spudley, was spotted handing out these vouchers during the recent Casper Pride Fest.

After the game, families can gather for an outdoor screening of a popular film at Mike Lansing Field, extending the evening’s festivities beyond the diamond.

In addition to the giveaway, the participating bookstores will slip WyoGives bookmarks into the donated books, linking the celebration to the statewide WyoGives Day on July 15, which encourages charitable giving to nonprofits.

Beyond the Giveaway

Casper Pride’s outreach does not stop with entertainment. The organization has highlighted its partnership with the Central Wyoming Counseling Center, an institution that provides mental‑health services and advocates for wellness across the region.

Executive Director Mallory Pollock, along with board members Kristi Hack, Miranda Berdahl, Kristy Bussey and Trinity Beck, emphasized that the event offers something for everyone — whether it is a book, a baseball experience, or simply a space of acceptance and safety.

The initiative reflects Casper Pride’s strategic plan to host a variety of events that reach different audiences, reinforcing the message that the community is open to all, regardless of belief or identity.
