On a bright afternoon in Carpinteria, Cate School gathered inside Sprague Gym to recognize seven seniors who have officially committed to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level, showcasing a blend of soccer and water polo talent.
A Celebration of Commitment
The ceremony, which drew families, coaches and school staff, underscored the athletes’ dedication not only on the field but also in embodying the school’s values.
Jesse Morrison, Cate’s assistant athletic director, praised each recruit for their character and the way they represent the school’s culture, noting that their achievements reflect the institution’s holistic approach to education and sport.
The commitments span a range of Division I and III programs across the country, with George Marin heading to the University of Chicago for soccer, Kamil Abdul‑Nafeo choosing Georgetown University, and Quincy Thorne opting for Colorado College, among others.
Among the water polo signees, Dimash Anuarbek will join Amherst College, Charlie Dorion will head to Pomona‑Pitzer, and Sebastian Brine will play at Occidental College, while Jae Wykoff will pursue soccer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
The event not only marks a pivotal moment for the athletes but also reinforces Cate School’s reputation as a nurturing ground for both academic and athletic excellence, a point repeatedly highlighted throughout the ceremony.
