Catholic Memorial Crusaders Gear for a Challenging 2026 Season

Returning stars, new coaching faces, and a tougher schedule set the stage for a pivotal year

A Revamped Roster

Catholic Memorial High School entered the 2026 preseason rankings at No. 6, a position that reflects both the program’s recent success and the high expectations placed on a team that reached the state semifinal a year ago.

The Crusaders return a core group that includes quarterback Dalton Steinke, running back/defensive back Dustin Roach, wide receiver Devon Williams Jr., and defensive end Isaac Miller, all of whom were integral to last season’s run.

Adding to the momentum, Hall of Fame coach Steve Rux has joined the staff as offensive coordinator, bringing decades of line expertise to a unit that will be anchored by returning linemen Hunter Wagner, Max Erchull and Will Schmitzer.

Head coach Bill Young, now in his 53rd year, emphasized the importance of weekly focus as the team navigates a schedule that features crossover matchups against Division 1 powerhouses such as Germantown, Marquette and Sussex Hamilton.

While the roster lost standout players like offensive lineman Aadon Herrera‑Freedy, defensive lineman Neeko Rodgers Jr. and linebacker Gabe Talla, the coaching staff believes the experience gained from those departures will fuel growth.

Players expressed optimism about the new challenges. Roach, still recovering from knee surgery, expects to be fully contact‑ready, while Miller, a massive presence on both sides of the ball, said the new conference offers ‘exciting opportunities.’

The Crusaders will also test themselves against Classic 8 rivals Arrowhead and Muskego, teams that reached the 2025 semifinals, in marquee crossover games that could shape their playoff aspirations.

Looking Ahead

Coach Young’s message to the squad is clear: each week demands preparation, and the team must stay motivated against stronger opponents while leveraging its depth and experience.
