A Hall of Famer’s Harlem Vision
CC Sabathia, a Hall of Fame pitcher whose 19‑year MLB career spanned 251 wins, returns to the sport’s roots by spearheading a youth baseball camp in Harlem. The initiative, organized by his PitCCh In Foundation, aims to give local children access to a game that has long been overshadowed by the neighborhood’s basketball culture.
The camp takes place at Brigadier General Charles Young Playground, a recently completed $11 million facility that accommodates baseball, softball, football, soccer and lacrosse. The renovation reflects Sabathia’s belief that every child deserves a safe, well‑equipped space to explore athletic potential.
Community Partnerships Fuel the Program
ProCamps, Next In Line Group and G3 Marketing have joined the effort, providing logistical support and promotional outreach. Sabathia himself contributed $500,000 toward the playground’s upgrade, underscoring his personal commitment to the project.
Instruction will be led by members of The Players Alliance, including Todd Isaacs, Will Fantroy and Junior Smith. Their presence adds a layer of mentorship that blends elite playing experience with a focus on character development.
The curriculum targets children in grades 1 through 8, emphasizing throwing, catching, hitting and fielding through hands‑on clinics. Sessions are designed to be interactive, allowing youngsters to practice skills while receiving real‑time feedback from seasoned athletes.
Beyond the field, the foundation’s broader mission includes educational initiatives and the refurbishment of other community spaces, such as Claremont Park in the Bronx. Sabathia’s own journey — from Vallejo, California, to a celebrated MLB career — serves as a narrative of resilience and opportunity that he hopes to pass on to the next generation.
