A Prestigious Academic Honor
The City College of New York’s baseball program has been recognized with the 2025‑26 American Baseball Coaches Association Team Academic Excellence Award, an honor that celebrates teams that combine competitive play with strong academic performance.
To qualify, a team must be sponsored by a current ABCA member, field a varsity program, and maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.00 across all roster members.
This year, nearly five hundred college programs and three hundred twenty high school teams met the standard, underscoring a growing emphasis on scholarly achievement in the sport.
A Legacy of Recognition
The award is part of a broader ABCA initiative that has, since its inception in 1949, highlighted the achievements of coaches and student‑athletes through a suite of accolades, including the ABCA/Rawlings All‑America Teams, the Hall of Fame inductions, and the Dave Keilitz Ethics in Coaching Award.
For CCNY, the recognition not only reflects the dedication of its coaching staff and players but also positions the program as a model for other urban institutions seeking to balance athletic ambition with academic rigor.
