The annual Dave Spurlock CCSD Football Jamboree, traditionally held on a Friday at North Charleston Regional Stadium, fell victim to a looming heatwave that pushed forecast temperatures into dangerous territory.
Organizers opted to cancel the event rather than risk the health of student‑athletes, coaches, officials, staff and spectators, citing the extreme conditions that would have forced games to stretch into the late evening.
Gene Ross, executive director of athletics for the Charleston County School District, said the decision was straightforward: protecting participants outweighed any desire to keep the jamboree on the schedule.
The cancellation means the showcase will not return until the 2027 season, a delay that promises to reshape training plans and raise questions about how future events can be better accommodated.
Fans who purchased tickets online will receive automatic refunds through the GoFan platform, ensuring that the financial impact is mitigated for those who had planned to attend.
