CCSU Football Players Celebrate Five-Year Partnership with Beautiful Lives Project

Long-Standing Outreach Brings Sport, Smiles, and Community to Participants with Disabilities

A Five-Year Tradition of Teamwork and Joy

For the fifth consecutive summer, members of the Central Connecticut State University football team have traveled to local fields and gyms to share the love of sport with participants of the Beautiful Lives Project, a nonprofit that opens athletic opportunities to people with disabilities.

The collaboration, now a staple of the university’s community outreach, began as a modest camp and has grown into a partnership that benefits both the players and the participants, who look forward to the annual event as a highlight of their summer.

Head coach Adam Lechtenberg has repeatedly praised the squad’s enthusiasm, noting that their willingness to give back is as valuable as any on-field achievement.

Sophomore running back Davon Smith Jr. says the experience fuels his own drive, describing the simple pleasure of putting a smile on a participant’s face as a reward that outweighs any trophy.

Senior defensive back Navon Mitchell, who first attended as a freshman, now views the day as a beautiful ritual, recalling how the camaraderie has deepened over the years.

Tony Gionfriddo, executive director of the Beautiful Lives Project, highlighted the players’ sustained commitment, emphasizing that their passion has become a cornerstone of the program’s success.
