Tom Hetrick, the longtime head coach of Central Bucks South’s football program, announced that he will step down after twelve seasons, citing his wife Sharon Hetrick’s recent health diagnosis as the reason for his departure.
Hetrick’s tenure was marked by consistency and success; his teams posted an 82‑50 record and earned eight winning seasons, highlighted by a PIAA District One Class 6A championship in 2023 and a school‑record 13 victories the same year.
Season Highlights and Records
During the 2023 campaign the Titans captured a district title, and the following year they posted a school‑record 13 wins against just two losses, finishing the regular season with a 12‑1 overall record.
Leadership Transition
The program will be led next season by a shared leadership model, with long‑time assistants Bart Szarko and John Cataldo assuming co‑coach responsibilities. Szarko, who served as offensive coordinator, and Cataldo, the defensive coordinator, bring deep familiarity with the team’s schemes.
Heading the program in 2004, Szarko was the school’s first head coach before handing the reins to Hetrick in 2014. He previously assisted Dave Rackovan from 2010 to 2013, linking the current leadership group to the program’s early years.
In 2024 the Titans captured the Suburban One League National Conference with a perfect 7‑0 conference slate, underscoring the continuity of competitive play despite the coaching transition.
The upcoming season will test how the co‑coaching arrangement translates into on‑field results, but the foundation laid by Hetrick’s decade‑plus legacy provides a strong platform for the next chapter.
