The Central College baseball program has once again been honored by the American Baseball Coaches Association, earning its Team Academic Excellence Award for the third straight year.
The accolade, which recognizes collegiate teams that finish the academic year with a collective grade point average of 3.0 or higher, underscores the program’s commitment to scholarly achievement as well as athletic competition.
A Dual Focus on Competition and Scholarship
During the 2025 season the team posted a 17‑23 overall record and a 12‑12 mark within the American Rivers Conference, illustrating resilience on the diamond while maintaining academic rigor in the classroom.
Coach Adam Carey, who led the squad throughout the campaign, emphasized that the award reflects the collective effort of players, staff and supporters who value both performance on the field and excellence in the classroom.
Seven members of the roster earned spots on the American Rivers Conference All‑Academic squad, a distinction that requires a minimum 3.5 GPA, while three additional students were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All‑District list.
The college’s overall academic standing of 3.14 GPA not only met but exceeded the benchmark set by the ABCA, reinforcing Central College’s reputation as an institution where student‑athletes thrive.
Athletic Director Dr. Mary Johnson praised the team’s balanced approach, noting that the recognition highlights the college’s broader mission to develop well‑rounded graduates prepared for success beyond sports.
