A Fresh Coaching Landscape
Central Michigan University’s men’s basketball program has announced a series of staff changes that underscore a continued effort to strengthen its coaching ranks.
Lance Roark, a veteran coach with more than 26 years of combined college experience, returns to the Chippewas after stints that included a long tenure at Cornerstone University and formative roles at several high schools. His career includes five NAIA Final Four appearances and two national championships, as well as a track record of recruiting the core of Kim Elders’ first championship team.
Dorian Aluyi adds a unique blend of playing and coaching pedigree. A standout at Ferris State University, he earned two all‑conference honors before turning professional in Spain with ACB Sagrado Corazón. He later served as a graduate assistant at Arkansas and Florida State, bringing a global perspective to the role of Assistant Director of Operations & Player Development.
Cody Torpey and Kyle Cousino have been promoted to Video Coordinator and Operations Coordinator, respectively. Both have previously held assistant positions within the program, with Torpey moving up from Assistant Video Coordinator and Cousino advancing from Graduate Assistant to Operations Coordinator.
Jeffrey Freiberg joins the staff as an Associate Athletic Trainer. He previously worked as the trainer for Troy’s men’s basketball team, bringing clinical expertise to the Chippewas’ player health initiatives.
The new appointments also highlight the program’s continuity with head coach Andy Bronkema, under whom both Roark and Aluyi previously coached or played. Their shared history with Bronkema is expected to reinforce a cohesive strategy as the team looks ahead.
