The cup was conceived by the Texas A&M System to honor athletic competition and academic excellence across its sprawling network, and it will be formally presented by System Chancellor Glenn Hegar at the season‑opening game.

Prairie View A&M President Tomikia P. LeGrande described the upcoming contest as a source of great pride, emphasizing how the match reflects the university’s rising momentum after securing the SWAC championship.
Tarleton State President James Hurley, meanwhile, expressed that hosting the first Chancellor’s Cup game in Stephenville is an honor that underscores the university’s commitment to fostering rivalry and camaraderie within the system.
