Championship pedigree lands in Seattle
Washington Huskies head coach Danny Sprinkle has bolstered his coaching roster by hiring Charles Klask, a seasoned NBA assistant with more than two decades of experience at the highest level of professional basketball.
Klask, a Michigan State University graduate from Livonia, Michigan, brings a résumé that includes stints with the Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons, Brooklyn Nets, Orlando Magic and a summer‑league head‑coaching role. His most recent chapter was a key part of the Nuggets’ historic 2023 championship run, a victory that marked the franchise’s first NBA title.
During his seven‑year tenure in Denver, Klask helped the club qualify for the playoffs each season and contributed to a 355‑win stretch that propelled the team to the top of the Western Conference. He previously honed his craft with the Pistons under Stan Van Gundy, where he began his NBA career as a video coordinator in 2000, and later served as a scout and video coordinator for the Orlando Magic.
Klask’s professional journey also saw him work closely with NBA luminaries such as Rick Carlisle, Doc Rivers, Jason Kidd, Stan Van Gundy and Mike Malone, and he spent time mentoring stars including Blake Griffin, Chauncey Billups and Andre Drummond. His summer‑league head‑coaching appointment in 2021 further demonstrated his ability to develop talent at the grassroots level.
Beyond the hardwood, Klask remains deeply connected to his alma mater, Michigan State, where he completed his studies in 1999. His return to the Pacific Northwest is viewed as a strategic move to infuse the Huskies program with NBA‑level insight and a winning culture that aligns with the university’s ambitions for national relevance.
