A Legacy Reimagined
Charles Woodson Jr., the son of Michigan’s own Hall‑of‑Famer, announced his commitment to the Wolverines on Wednesday, securing a spot in the program’s 2027 recruiting class.
The 6‑foot‑2, 190‑pound safety from Lake Nona High School in Orlando finished his junior season with 73 tackles, eight pass breakups, two interceptions, a fumble recovery and a kickoff return for a touchdown, numbers that helped him earn a top‑10 overall ranking nationally.
Woodson’s decision came after a whirlwind recruitment that featured offers from a who’s‑who of college football powerhouses, including Florida State, Oregon, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Iowa State, Ole Miss, Virginia Tech, Louisville, Kentucky and Vanderbilt.
Recruiting Elite
While each program made a strong pitch, the younger Woodson ultimately chose Michigan, citing the legacy of his father and the opportunity to contribute to a defense that has been rebuilding under new leadership.
His addition bumps the Wolverines’ 2027 class to ten total commits, with Maxwell Miles already on board as the other safety, giving the staff a rare double‑digit haul at the position.
Coach Jim Harbaugh and his staff now face the task of integrating two elite prospects into a unit that has struggled for consistency, but the excitement is palpable among fans who see the potential for a secondary that could rival the greats of the past.
