Charlie Scholvin, a 2023 graduate of Olentangy Orange High School, has turned a childhood dream into a professional reality after being selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 15th round of the Major League Baseball draft.
The shortstop signed his rookie contract and reported to the team’s training facility in Fort Myers, Florida, on July 19, where he began a regimen that blends on‑field drills with classroom work.
From High School to the Pros
Scholvin’s high school career culminated in a Division I state final appearance, a feat made more remarkable by a broken collarbone and punctured lung he suffered in a collision with a teammate.
At the University of Toledo, he evolved from a preferred walk‑on to a scholarship player, earning first‑team All‑Mid‑American Conference honors as a junior after batting .360 with 12 home runs, 28 stolen bases and a .936 OPS.
His father, Cameron Scholvin, serves as chief operating officer of the Columbus Blue Jackets, a connection that has provided both guidance and perspective as he navigates the professional ranks.
Scholvin also credits his mother, Rebekah Scholvin, and his siblings — Tate, Maverick, Izzy — and longtime coach Tom Marker for their unwavering support.
Looking ahead, he plans to return to Toledo in the fall to complete a bachelor’s degree in management with a minor in marketing and sales, while awaiting the next step in his baseball journey, which he expects to learn in mid‑August.
If assigned to Minnesota’s Single‑A affiliate in Fort Myers, he will continue to develop under the guidance of the organization’s player development staff.
