A New Chapter for Charlotte Basketball
Charlotte’s men’s basketball program received a boost this week as head coach Wes Miller announced the arrival of Peyton Marshall, a seven‑foot center who spent the past season at Georgia Tech. Miller highlighted the transfer’s size, mobility and defensive instincts as key assets for a team looking to strengthen its interior.
Marshall’s journey to the Queen City traces back to a standout high school career at Kell High in Georgia, where he led his squad to its first state championship in 2023 and earned 5A Player of the Year honors. Prior to that, he honed his game in the Overtime Elite circuit, averaging 8.4 points and 5.6 rebounds while drawing national attention as a top‑70 recruit.
A Towering Presence in the Paint
At Georgia Tech, Marshall appeared in 22 games, logging 3.3 points and 2.9 rebounds per contest while showcasing flashes of potential. He opened the season with nine points and eight rebounds against Maryland Eastern Shore, later posting a career‑high 10 points versus Lafayette. In ACC play he rejected three shots against Virginia Tech, underscoring his shot‑blocking ability.
Beyond the numbers, Marshall brings a reputation as a disciplined, high‑motor big man who can stretch the floor and protect the rim. His experience in elite competition and proven leadership at the high school level have generated optimism that he can contribute immediately, especially on the defensive end.
The addition comes as Charlotte seeks to build on recent progress in the Colonial Athletic Association. Fans are eager to see how the 7‑foot prospect will mesh with returning veterans and whether his presence will translate into more wins for the 49ers. Coach Miller expressed confidence that Marshall’s work ethic and basketball IQ will fit seamlessly into the program’s culture.
