Historic Soccer Match at Erlanger Park
On July 4, Chattanooga Football Club will step onto a baseball diamond that has been re‑engineered into a full‑size soccer pitch, marking a first for the club and the city.
The transformation was made possible by a Danish turf‑tank robot that uses GPS and satellite data to lay down the lines with precision, a process overseen by General Supervisor Tim Gambrell.
Jordan Mattheis, vice president of business operations for CFC, explained that the project is about more than novelty; it’s a celebration of community, independence and the growing popularity of soccer in the region.
After the final whistle, the park will light up with a fireworks display, turning the evening into a festive holiday experience for families and fans alike.
Local officials from the city parks and recreation department collaborated on the line markings, ensuring the field meets standard soccer dimensions while preserving the historic baseball layout.
CFC will field goals borrowed from Baylor University for the match, adding a unique touch to the historic occasion.
Fireworks and Community Celebration
The post‑game fireworks are being coordinated with the city’s Fourth of July festivities, promising a spectacular finale that blends sport, technology and tradition.
