Cheboygan Star Jaelyn Wheelock Leads Team to District Semifinal Victory

Despite injury setbacks, senior forward’s clutch goals secure a 2-1 win over Grayling and a spot in the May 26 showdown at Kingsford.

Cheboygan High School’s senior forward Jaelyn Wheelock became the centerpiece of a dramatic 2-1 victory over Grayling on Tuesday night, netting both goals that kept the Chippewas’ season hopes alive.

A Test of Grit

The win was all the more impressive given Wheelock’s battle with lingering knee injuries; she has undergone surgery on each knee and continues to play through pain that would sideline many athletes.

Coach Tom Markham praised the senior’s toughness, noting that her willingness to push through adversity has been a rallying point for the entire squad.

Markham said, “Jaelyn’s grit inspires everyone in the locker room; she shows that perseverance can turn the tide even when the odds are stacked against you.”

The victory sets up a district semifinal showdown scheduled for May 26 at Kingsford, where the Chippewas will meet their next opponent at 6 p.m.
