Family Legacy Meets New Opportunity
The Charlotte Checkers announced this week that they have signed forward Kasper Lundell to a one-year, two-way AHL contract, a move that adds depth to their roster ahead of the upcoming season.
At 22 years old, Lundell brings a blend of youth and experience, having spent the last three seasons competing in Finland’s SM‑liiga with HIFK Helsinki, where he logged 26 points in 101 games.
The signing also reconnects the Checkers with a familiar name in the Panthers organization; Lundell is the younger brother of Florida Panthers forward Anton Lundell, a connection that could foster a unique chemistry within the club’s development pipeline.
During the most recent campaign, Lundell recorded three goals and four assists in 38 appearances for HIFK, contributing to a total of 26 points over his SM‑liiga career, which includes stints across three seasons.
Coaching staff say they are eager to see how his offensive instincts translate to the AHL’s faster pace, noting that the two-way nature of the deal gives the team flexibility in both offensive and defensive situations.
