Chendall Weaver, a forward who has amassed over a thousand career points across four seasons in the NCAA, has officially joined the University of Houston men's basketball program. His arrival marks the start of a new chapter for the Cougars, who will integrate the Texas native into their lineup beginning in the 2026‑27 campaign.
A Career Built on Consistency and Growth
Weaver's collegiate path began at UT Arlington, where he burst onto the scene as a freshman, averaging 9.5 points and 4.6 rebounds per game and earning Freshman of the Year honors. He later transferred to Texas, experiencing a breakout sophomore season before a groin injury limited his junior campaign. Most recently, he recorded his first NCAA double‑double with 11 points and 10 rebounds in a victory over NC State, underscoring his ability to impact the game in multiple ways.
Beyond statistics, Weaver distinguished himself academically, graduating with a bachelor's degree in physical culture and sports and earning placement on the SEC Academic Honor Roll and the NABC Honors Court. His commitment to community service was recognized when he served on the SEC Men's Basketball Community Service Team, reflecting a well‑rounded profile that aligns with Houston's emphasis on character and competitiveness.
Head Coach Kelvin Sampson praised Weaver's blend of talent and work ethic, noting that the forward's defensive intensity and offensive versatility fit neatly into the Cougars' identity. "Chendall brings a competitive spirit and a winning mindset that will enhance our program both on and off the court," Sampson said, highlighting the player's readiness to contribute immediately.
With a single year of eligibility remaining, Weaver is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping Houston's frontcourt dynamics. His experience, coupled with his proven ability to score efficiently — shooting above 46 percent from the field — offers the Cougars a reliable option as they aim to contend in the upcoming season.
