The Chicago Stars, a women’s professional soccer franchise in the National Women’s Soccer League, will again call Martin Stadium in Evanston, Illinois, their home for the 2026 and 2027 seasons, using the 12,000‑seat venue at Northwestern University as a temporary base.
A Temporary Home with Growing Momentum
Since moving onto the Northwestern campus, the Stars have seen a noticeable rise in attendance, a boost that club president Karen Leetzow attributes to the university’s partnership and the team’s commitment to community outreach.
Leetzow said the organization is grateful for the support and is working to enhance the fan experience while using the platform of professional women’s soccer to inspire girls in Evanston and the surrounding region.
On‑Field Struggles and Coaching Changes
The Stars currently sit at the bottom of the NWSL table with 16 points from 21 matches, a record that led the front office to part ways with head coach Martin Sjögren and assistant Anders Jacobson after a 5‑1‑15 start to the campaign.
Despite the on‑field challenges, the club is exploring Ryan Stadium as a possible long‑term venue, though no definitive timeline has been set.
In parallel, the franchise is developing community programs that leverage sport to create positive outcomes for young athletes, partnering with local schools and organizations across Evanston.
