A Summer of Soccer and Wellness
Nearly two hundred children gathered at Jackson Park this summer, lacing up their cleats for a soccer camp organized by Chicago Stars FC. The heat was intense, but the organizers kept the participants hydrated and safe.
The event was part of the Future Stars program, a initiative designed to nurture the athletic and personal growth of young girls, offering mentorship from professional players and emphasizing health and wellness.
Midfielder Brianna Pinto, who plays for Chicago Stars FC, joined the camp and spoke about the excitement of introducing many first‑time players to the sport, while also tying the experience to the buzz surrounding the upcoming World Cup and the nearby Obama Presidential Center.
Noelle Schmitt, director of communication and government relations for the club, highlighted research showing a higher incidence of ACL injuries among female athletes, explaining why the program tailors its approach to the physiological needs of girls.
Vivien Lopez and her husband have long championed a lifestyle that blends nutrition, activity, and sport, and they watched their children, six‑year‑old Aubrey and five‑year‑old Noah, thrive at the camp, where water stations, Gatorade, cooling towels and ice were readily available.
Aubrey declared the day “fun and healthy,” while Noah delighted in the splash of water and the chance to play with cooling towels, illustrating the event’s blend of education and enjoyment.
Chicago Stars FC has announced plans to bring the Future Stars experience to Evanston later this fall, promising another opportunity for the city’s youth to engage with the sport.
