Adonis Jackson, a six‑year‑old participant in a Nike Soccer Camp, was pulled from the water after more than two minutes submerged.
The camp, which had roughly thirty children in the pool, was staffed by a single lifeguard who left his post for a scheduled lunch break at the moment of the accident.
Medical Crisis and Immediate Response
When the lifeguard returned, he found the boy unresponsive and immediately initiated rescue efforts, but the delay proved critical.
Emergency responders transported Adonis to a nearby hospital, where he remains sedated and is being kept on breathing support as doctors assess his condition.
Institutional Review and Campus Reaction
Calhoun Meredith, the family’s attorney, has opened an investigation, questioning why it took two minutes for an adult to reach the child and why supervision protocols were not enforced.
The University of the District of Columbia, which is reviewing the incident, announced that the camp’s pool will stay closed until the inquiry is completed.
