Chinyere Bell, a South View alumna and former UNCW basketball standout, has been named the new head coach of the school’s varsity girls basketball program. The announcement came during a recent school board meeting, where district officials praised Bell’s deep ties to the community and her proven leadership on the court.

Bell arrives with an impressive résumé that includes 18 individual records at South View, spanning career points, rebounds and single‑season achievements that have stood for more than a decade.

Among those records, Bell sits atop the career points list with 1,951 points and the rebounds chart with 1,246 boards. She also holds the single‑season scoring mark of 632 points and the single‑season rebound record of 333, numbers that have never been eclipsed since the program’s inception.

Before returning to her hometown, Bell served two seasons at Fayetteville Christian, where she guided the team to a conference championship and earned NCISAA Sandhills Athletic Conference Coach of the Year honors in her debut year. Her stint was marked by a 20‑win improvement and a style of play that emphasized disciplined defense and fast‑break efficiency.
Returning to Familiar Ground
Bell’s connection to South View runs deep; she starred for the Tigers in the early 2010s, earning a McDonald’s All‑American nomination and NCBCA All‑State District 4 Player of the Year honors. After a successful college career at UNCW, where she continued to set scoring benchmarks, she now hopes to translate that experience into sustained success for the next generation of Tigers.
