Chris Akporoghene’s Journey from Nigeria to the SEC and Beyond

A look at the Nigerian offensive lineman’s college career and recent moves

Chris Akporoghene grew up in Warri, a bustling city in Nigeria's Delta region, before his family relocated to Seymour, Tennessee, where he began his high school journey at The King's Academy.

Early Success in Tennessee

At The King's Academy he quickly made a name for himself, earning All‑State recognition from the Tennessee Sports Writers Association and helping the team secure a top‑10 national ranking as a senior after a standout season at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.

His performance attracted the attention of the University of Tennessee, and he joined the Volunteers as an offensive lineman in 2019. Over three seasons he appeared in seven games, contributed on special teams, and earned a degree in communications.

After the 2021 season he entered the transfer portal and landed at Tulsa, where he played in ten games for the Golden Hurricane in 2022, showcasing the versatility that had defined his college career.

The following year he spent time at Bowling Green but was limited by injury, a setback that kept him off the field despite being on the roster.

In 2024 he moved to Florida A&M, continuing his pursuit of a professional football pathway while completing his academic goals.
