The university's pioneering program welcomes a seasoned coach to lead its inaugural team

A Milestone for Women's Sports in Texas

Concordia University Texas announced this week that Chris Chacon will take the reins of its newly established Women's Flag Football program, marking a significant step in the school's commitment to gender‑equitable athletics.

Chacon, a longtime coach in the Lone Star State, most recently served as Associate Head Coach for Girls Flag Football at Lehman High School, where he guided the team to an 8‑3 record and a league championship game appearance.

His coaching résumé also includes stints at San Marcos Academy, Summit Christian Academy and Veritas Academy, as well as a role as Program Director for Neighborhood Sports/NFL Flag in Austin and Head Coach of the NS Elite Vipers.

Matt Wallis, Director of Athletics at Concordia Texas, praised Chacon's blend of experience and leadership, stating that his background aligns perfectly with the university's vision of competitive excellence and leadership development.

The program, which launched as the first women's flag football team in Texas, reflects the university's broader mission to provide higher‑education opportunities to students of all backgrounds while fostering dialogue‑centered liberal arts learning.

Chacon holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Huston‑Tillotson University and a Sports Management Essentials certificate from Columbia University, along with certifications in USA Football, NFHS Coaching, AED, First Aid and CPR.

With flag football experiencing rapid growth nationwide, Concordia Texas aims to build a competitive, inclusive program that prepares student‑athletes for both sport and life.
