Chris Hart, who spent two decades as an assistant and associate head coach for the NC State baseball program, has been named the Wolfpack’s new head coach following the retirement of longtime mentor Elliott Avent.
Hart’s ascent comes after a 22‑year climb through the ranks, including eleven seasons directly under Avent, during which he helped shape the team’s strategy, player development and recruiting pipelines.
Voices of the Alumni
Former NC State standouts, many of whom have progressed to Major League Baseball, have publicly voiced their confidence in Hart’s leadership, citing his deep institutional knowledge and commitment to the program.
Carlos Rodón, an MLB pitcher who honed his craft in Raleigh, highlighted Hart’s pivotal role in player development and described the transition as a seamless continuation of Avent’s legacy.
Andrew Ciencin, another alumnus, emphasized Hart’s knack for attracting high‑caliber talent despite the program’s modest facilities, underscoring the coach’s ability to maximize resources.
Patrick Bailey and Will Wilson echoed the sentiment, praising Hart’s loyalty and experience, and labeling him one of the most respected assistants in college baseball.
Brett Kinneman added that Hart’s dedication to NC State’s culture will preserve the standards set by Avent while steering the team toward future success.
The university’s administration expressed optimism that Hart’s extensive background will keep the program competitive in the ACC and maintain its reputation as a breeding ground for professional talent.
