Chris Lemonis Returns Home to Lead Coastal Carolina Baseball

The former Mississippi State champion brings a championship pedigree back to the Lowcountry

A Homecoming for a Proven Winner

Coastal Carolina University announced this week that Chris Lemonis will take the helm of its baseball program, tapping a coach whose résumé reads like a blend of championship grit and deep regional ties.

A Myrtle Beach native and alumnus of The Citadel, Lemonis played four seasons of college baseball, earning two‑time All‑Southern Conference selections before turning to coaching.

During his time at Mississippi State, he led the Bulldogs to a 2021 national championship, guided them to the College World Series in 2019, and helped the team secure six NCAA Tournament appearances in 11 seasons as a head coach at MSU and Indiana.

His coaching journey includes 12 years as an assistant under Fred Jordan at Mississippi State and a stint as an assistant at Louisville, where he worked alongside Dan McDonnell, a former Citadel teammate.

Lemonis’s wife Jill Lemonis and their children Marissa, Mackenzie and Chance are expected to become part of the campus community as the new staff settles in.

Athletic director Kevin Schnall expressed confidence that Lemonis’s blend of championship experience and local roots will propel the program forward, citing recent investments in facilities and recruiting.

The Chanticleers, who reached the NCAA Tournament in each of the past two seasons, hope to build on that momentum under a leader who knows the state’s baseball culture from the ground up.
