Chris Marx, a native of Evansville, Indiana, has been honored as the Coastal Athletic Association Coach of the Year after guiding Campbell University’s baseball program to an unprecedented level of success.
The Camels finished the regular season with a 39‑15 overall record and a 26‑4 mark within the conference, the latter representing the most wins ever recorded in a single CAA campaign.
A Season That Redefined Expectations
Despite being preselected to finish third in the league, Campbell seized the top seed in the conference tournament and went on to dominate, capturing nine of ten series and sweeping seven of those matchups.
Marx’s tenure marks only the fifth occasion a head coach has earned the CAA Coach of the Year distinction, underscoring the significance of his achievement.
His coaching journey began in 2007 as a graduate assistant at the University of Southern Indiana, where he helped the Eagles capture a Division II national championship in 2010.
After a successful stint at Purdue, where he served as lead assistant and pitching coach, Marx oversaw team records in home runs, runs scored and on‑base percentage, and contributed to an 11‑game winning streak in Big Ten play.
He holds degrees from Southern Indiana, having earned both a bachelor’s and a master’s, and his early work helped set offensive and pitching benchmarks that still stand.
The recognition reflects not only the program’s on‑field performance but also the strategic vision and player development that Marx has consistently delivered.
