Adelphi University announced this week that Chris Megaloudis will assume the role of head coach for the Panthers’ men’s soccer team, succeeding Gary Book, who recently transitioned to a managerial position with The Island FC. The appointment marks a homecoming for Megaloudis, who previously served as an assistant coach at Adelphi during the 2022‑23 season and contributed to the program’s NCAA Tournament victory over Queens College in 2022.
Megaloudis arrives with an extensive résumé that spans multiple levels of the sport. His most recent stop was at Molloy University, where he guided the men’s squad to an 11‑15‑11 record and a berth in the East Coast Conference Championship game in 2024. Prior to that, he led the women’s soccer program at Nassau Community College to a 42‑20‑6 record and three NJCAA Region XV championships, establishing himself as a builder of competitive teams.
His playing background adds another layer of credibility. Megaloudis was a standout athlete at Saint Peter’s University and Stony Brook University, earning All‑MAAC and All‑America East honors. He later turned professional with the New York Red Bulls and represented Puerto Rico on the international stage, scoring nine goals in 20 appearances during World Cup qualifying campaigns.
Beyond club and college achievements, Megaloudis also tasted success with the Long Island Rough Riders in the USL League Two, capturing a division title and reaching the playoffs on two occasions. These experiences have equipped him with a deep understanding of player development and tactical nuance, qualities that Adelphi’s athletic department believes will elevate the program.
A New Era for Panthers Soccer
Danny McCabe, Adelphi’s director of athletics, praised Megaloudis’s dual legacy as both a player and a coach, noting that his familiarity with the university’s culture and his proven track record make him the ideal leader to continue the Panthers’ tradition of excellence. McCabe highlighted the coach’s commitment to student‑athletes and his vision for sustaining the program’s competitive edge.
Megaloudis expressed gratitude for the opportunity to return to Adelphi, emphasizing the institution’s pivotal role in shaping his own career. He pledged to invest in the development of his players, foster community engagement, and uphold the standards that have defined the university’s soccer heritage.
