Chris Parker Joins Tennessee Basketball Staff
The University of Tennessee announced the hiring of Chris Parker as its new assistant director of player development, a move that bolsters the Volunteers' roster with a blend of playing experience and coaching acumen.
Parker, a Plano, Texas native, previously served as a graduate assistant at TCU before embarking on a professional career that took him to the Proliga in Portugal and the Georgia Super League. His international background adds a unique dimension to the program's player development strategy.
He succeeds Riley Collins, who departed Tennessee to join the coaching staff at NC State. Collins' transition reflects the dynamic nature of college basketball staffs, where experienced assistants often seek new opportunities to shape emerging programs.
At Liberty University, Parker led the team to an Atlantic Sun Conference championship and an NCAA Tournament berth in 2021, showcasing his ability to elevate programs quickly. During his collegiate career he averaged 10.3 points and 3.4 assists, numbers that underscore his well‑rounded skill set.
“I’m thrilled to be part of such a storied program,” Parker said in a statement. “The tradition, the fans, and the ambition at Tennessee are exactly what I’ve been looking for.”
The Volunteers' staff will now include a mix of seasoned coaches and fresh voices, positioning the team for continued success in the highly competitive SEC landscape.
