NASCAR driver Christian Eckes is set to take the green flag at Lime Rock Park this weekend, even though he is nursing a Grade 3 lateral sprain in his left foot.
The injury occurred on June 19 when Eckes stepped into an unexpected hole while exiting the San Diego race circuit, a mishap that forced him to leave California on crutches and rely on a brace for stability.
Despite the painful condition that leaves his foot unstable and walking difficult, Eckes has said he will manage the discomfort without the benefit of a relief driver, confirming that there is no alternate plan for his seat in the No. 91 truck.
Currently fifth in the championship standings and 132 points clear of the cut‑line, he also managed a respectable 13th‑place qualifying effort, a testament to the team's effort and his own determination.
