Hofstra University announced this week that Christian Mordi will join its women's basketball program as an assistant coach for the 2026‑27 season, bringing a proven track record of player development and recruiting to the Long Island campus.
Head coach Danielle Santos Atkinson highlighted Mordi's strengths, noting his ability to identify talent and nurture growth, qualities that align with the program's ambitions.
A Recruiting Mindset Meets On‑Court Growth
Mordi spent three seasons at Iona University, where he helped the Gaels secure 42 victories and contributed to a defense that ranked among the top three in the MAAC for points allowed. His frontcourt work produced 1,000‑point scorer Sierra DiAngelo, while guards Isabellah Middleton and Zoey Ward earned All‑MAAC and All‑Defensive honors under his guidance. The staff also oversaw nine academic all‑stars during his tenure.
Prior to Iona, Mordi served as director of player development and assistant coach at Fairleigh Dickinson University, where his contributions helped the team capture back‑to‑back NEC regular‑season championships. He later worked at Kean University as a special assistant, focusing on film analysis and forward development, before moving into Division I roles with the NYC Exodus program.
A 2012 graduate of William Patterson University with a degree in communication and media studies, Mordi began his coaching journey editing film and mentoring youth teams before rising through the ranks of Division I programs.
Expressing enthusiasm about the new opportunity, Mordi said he looks forward to supporting Hofstra's growth and contributing to a vibrant future for the program. He becomes the second assistant coach added to the staff this summer, underscoring the university's commitment to strengthening its roster.
