Christian Mordi Joins Hofstra Women’s Basketball Staff for 2026‑27 Season

The new assistant coach brings championship pedigree from Iona and Fairleigh Dickinson to the Pride’s rising program.

Hofstra University announced Tuesday that Christian Mordi will join the program as an assistant coach for the women's basketball team ahead of the 2026‑27 season, bringing a résumé that includes stints at several high‑profile collegiate programs.

Mordi’s most recent experience came at Iona, where he served as an assistant for three seasons and helped the Gaels capture 42 victories while guiding frontcourt standout Sierra DiAngelo, a 1,000‑point scorer, and contributing to a top‑three finish in the MAAC for points allowed.

During his tenure at Fairleigh Dickinson University, Mordi progressed from director of player development to assistant coach, playing a key role in back‑to‑back Northeast Conference regular‑season championships.

His coaching journey began at Kean University, where he worked with forwards, including National Player of the Year Jonathan Jones, and later saw him rise to associate head coach at Christ the King High School, focusing on skill development and scouting.

Before entering the collegiate ranks, Mordi honed his craft with the NYC Exodus, leading 16U and 17U Elite teams in the EYBL before transitioning to Division I.

A graduate of William Patterson University with a bachelor's degree in communication and media studies, Mordi expressed enthusiasm about returning to the New York area and contributing to Hofstra’s recent historic run that saw the Pride reach the championship game of the 2026 CAA Championship.

A Strategic Addition for the Program

Mordi becomes the second assistant coach added to the Hofstra staff this summer, following the recent hire of Jenna Annecchiarico, underscoring the university’s commitment to building a competitive roster.

Athletic director Danielle Santos Atkinson praised Mordi’s blend of playing‑experience and developmental expertise, noting that his arrival aligns with the program’s ambition to sustain momentum after a breakthrough season.
