Christopher Bell crossed the finish line at Darlington Raceway on Sunday, capturing his first victory in the NASCAR Cup Series Chase and snapping a 33‑race winless streak that dated back to Bristol.
With 18 laps remaining, Bell executed a decisive pass on Kyle Larson, moving into the lead and holding on to claim the Southern 500 win.
The podium was rounded out by Ty Gibbs in second place and Tyler Reddick in third, while nine of the top ten positions were filled by drivers competing in the Chase, including Ryan Blaney fourth and Kyle Larson fifth.
The race was not without drama: Denny Hamlin, the top seed, suffered a damaged toe link and finished 18th after a pit stop, while Ryan Blaney entered the event with a 25‑point advantage over Hamlin and navigated that lead into the final stages. William Byron of Hendrick Motorsports spun out with a suspected flat tire, and Chris Buescher of Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing struggled to advance, finishing well outside the top ten.
The final lap showdown
Chase Briscoe, seeking a third straight Southern 500 triumph, was assessed a fuel‑related penalty and crossed the line 20th, while Bubba Wallace and Tyler Reddick, both under the 23XI banner, fell out of the top ten by the race’s conclusion.
The next Chase event is slated for World Wide Technology Raceway in St. Louis, Illinois, continuing the high‑stakes sequence for the playoff contenders.
