The 2026 NASCAR Cup Series Chase opened with a decisive victory for Christopher Bell at Darlington Raceway, marking his first win of the season and giving Joe Gibbs Racing its third Southern 500 triumph of the year.
Opening Victory Sets Tone
Denny Hamlin’s championship advantage was reduced to a razor‑thin 12 points after his car sustained damage during the race, underscoring the unpredictable nature of the competition as the Chase enters its final nine events.
In the current standings, Ryan Blaney holds third place, 16 points behind Bell, while Tyler Reddick sits fourth, 24 points back, and the defending champion Chase Elliott, the No. 1 seed, has yet to find his rhythm at the start of the postseason.
