City League Honors Baseball and Softball Standouts
The Pittsburgh Hardball Academy is set to recognize the city’s most outstanding baseball and softball players in its third annual All‑City Awards ceremony, scheduled for this weekend at the Training and Education Center in Shadyside. The event celebrates not only athletic achievement but also academic excellence and community involvement, underscoring the academy’s commitment to developing well‑rounded student‑athletes.
Baseball honors will spotlight Obama Academy, which finished the regular season unbeaten at 8‑0 and captured the league title, followed by a playoff victory over Brashear on May 11 at Greenway Field in Sheridan. Coaches and statisticians weighed regular‑season performance and game impact to determine the awardees.
Softball Dominance and New Inclusions
In softball, Carrick dominated the regular season with a perfect 10‑0 record and secured the playoff championship by defeating Allderdice on May 18 at Volunteer Field. For the first time, standout athletes from Perry and Westinghouse are included among the honorees, expanding the recognition to more neighborhoods.
The ceremony will also highlight the academic and civic contributions of each player, reinforcing the academy’s philosophy that success on the field is complemented by excellence in the classroom and service to the community.
