Three brothers who have spent decades on California football fields — Jimmy, a former NFL quarterback; Rick, a current head coach at Westlake; and Casey, a former head coach at Bishop Alemany — have joined forces to create a new fall flag football league called Rising Stars. The initiative targets boys and girls alike, with a special focus on encouraging greater involvement for young female athletes.
A family legacy meets youth sports
The league will field six teams composed of Clausen children and their peers, organized by grade from third through eighth. Games are scheduled for Sunday mornings beginning August 16, taking place on fields in Agoura, Oak Park and Westlake. This geographic spread allows families across the region to participate without extensive travel.
Opening the field to girls
Rising Stars distinguishes itself by designating divisions for both boys and girls, aiming to dismantle the historical under‑representation of females in youth flag football. Organizers say the emphasis on girls’ participation is intended to build confidence and competence early, laying groundwork for future opportunities in the sport.
Community impact
Beyond the gridiron, the league seeks to reinforce community ties by partnering with local schools and organizations. With guidance from Casey Clausen’s experience at Bishop Alemany and Rick Clausen’s leadership at Westlake, the program hopes to become a model for other regions looking to expand youth sports access.
