Clemson University’s football program has reinforced its defensive front by securing commitment from transfer defensive lineman Devarrick Woods, who arrives from Texas State via the NCAA transfer portal. The move comes as the Tigers look to shore up a line that has been unsettled by recent injuries.
A Strategic Addition to the Defensive Line
Woods brings a season of experience from Texas State, where he appeared in 11 games last year and logged 16 tackles with a single sack. The NCAA granted him an additional year of eligibility this spring, allowing him to contribute immediately.
During his junior college stint at Hinds Community College, Woods earned first‑team All‑MACCC honors in 2024 after posting 43 tackles and four sacks, a performance that caught the attention of several Power Five programs.
His recruitment was not straightforward. He weighed offers from Florida State, Florida, NC State and Colorado before electing to join Clemson, a decision he said was influenced by the coaching staff and the opportunity for early playing time.
The Tigers’ defensive tackle room has been hit by the loss of Kourtney Kelly, who was sidelined by injury earlier in the offseason. Woods’ addition is viewed as a direct response to that vacancy, providing depth and veteran presence.
Clemson’s activity in the portal this offseason has been prolific, with 11 newcomers arriving, ten of them on the defensive side of the ball. Woods is the fourth defensive tackle added through the transfer pathway, underscoring the staff’s focus on fortifying the interior line.

Coaches expect Woods to compete for immediate snaps, citing his 74.2 overall grade from Pro Football Focus in 2025 and his reputation as a reliable tackler. If he adapts quickly, the Tigers could see a noticeable boost in pass‑rush pressure and run‑stop efficiency.
