A Fresh Coaching Landscape
Cliff Bauer, a lifelong resident of Chalmette, has shifted from his role at Pearl River Central to the head coaching position at Pearl River High, taking over from Christina Hursey, who will now serve as an assistant coach.
Bauer’s path to the sidelines was not a straight one. After spending years in the corporate world at AT&T, he turned to coaching to support his daughter’s basketball ambitions, eventually guiding junior‑high teams before assuming leadership at Pearl River Central in 2020.
His two‑year stint at East Central High further honed his approach, and his recent promotion to head coach at Pearl River Central set the stage for this move. Bauer says he is eager to work alongside Hursey, whose own coaching philosophy he admires, and to fuse their styles into a cohesive system.
Beyond the X’s and O’s, Bauer emphasizes personal growth and community connection, hoping to build a program that reflects the values of the local area while preparing players for future challenges.
