A New Chapter for Tupelo Basketball
Tupelo High School announced this week that Cliff Little, a coach whose résumé includes six state championships, will lead the school’s boys’ basketball program. The appointment was approved by the Tupelo Public School District’s Board of Trustees, signaling a decisive move to restore the program’s former prominence.
Little comes to Tupelo after a 15‑year tenure at Biggersville High School, where he amassed six titles — four on the boys’ side and two on the girls’ side. Among those victories was a boys’ championship at East Webster High School in 2008, underscoring his ability to develop winning teams across different contexts.
He replaces Robert Green, who has moved into an assistant principal role at Milam Elementary School. Green’s departure marks the end of a brief stint at the helm and opens the door for Little’s distinctive coaching philosophy to take shape.
Building on Recent Momentum
Last season the Tupelo Bears posted an 18‑8 record and advanced to the second round of the playoffs, yet the program’s most recent state championship dates back to 2016. The gap between that triumph and the present has generated both nostalgia and anticipation, with many believing Little’s proven track record could bridge it.
Community members, alumni, and local media have already begun drawing parallels between Little’s championship pedigree and the standards set during the program’s last title run. Their optimism is rooted not only in his past successes but also in his commitment to fostering talent and discipline among the student‑athletes.
District officials say the board’s approval reflects confidence that Little’s leadership will honor Tupelo’s basketball heritage while inspiring the next generation of players to chase future championships.
