Clint Sargent Commits to Wright State Through 2031

The coach’s contract extension reflects a program on the rise, highlighted by recent tournament success and leadership changes.

A New Era for Wright State Basketball

Clint Sargent has agreed to a contract extension that will keep him at the helm of Wright State’s men’s basketball program through the 2031 season, a move that cements his role beyond the initial two‑year term that began in 2024.

During his first two seasons the Raiders posted a 38‑30 combined record, improving from a 15‑18 debut to a 23‑12 campaign that culminated in a fifth NCAA tournament appearance in program history.

Brad Chandler, who recently stepped into the role of athletics director, lauded Sargent’s leadership, noting that the coach’s vision and the momentum he has built have been evident on and off the court.

Sargent’s journey to the top began long before the extension; he arrived at Wright State in 2016 and spent eight years on Scott Nagy’s staff, rising to associate head coach for the final three seasons before Nagy’s departure for Southern Illinois in 2024.

The new agreement includes a base salary of $357,200 in the first year and $381,200 for each of the final four years, a financial commitment that reflects the university’s confidence in his direction.

Sargent expressed gratitude to President Sue Edwards, Chandler, and the broader athletic department, emphasizing that his roots in the Wright State community fuel his commitment to the program’s continued growth.

With the foundation of recent successes and a clear strategic path forward, the program looks poised to build on its upward trajectory, aiming for sustained competitiveness in the coming decade.
