The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) has released its 2026 All-Region teams, recognizing standout performers from across the nation. This year, four members of the Coast Guard Bears earned spots on the prestigious list, highlighting a campaign that combined offensive firepower with dominant pitching.
A season of milestones
Nate Stafford emerged as the offensive anchor for the Bears, starting all 34 games and posting a .341 batting average that placed him at the top of the team’s lineup. His 32 runs batted in not only led the squad but also rewrote the program’s record books, making him the career RBI leader in Coast Guard history. In addition, Stafford’s power surge included six home runs, pushing him into the top five all‑time home run hitters for the program.
Carson Cho complemented Stafford’s production with a .309 average and a team‑high nine stolen bases. He drove in 21 runs and hit seven home runs, ranking second on the club in hits, doubles and overall offensive output. Cho’s consistency was evident as he started every game and helped shape a balanced attack.
Pitching excellence
On the mound, right‑hander Jackson Dorsey served as the bullpen’s anchor, recording a team‑high seven saves while posting a 2.45 ERA and striking out 26 batters over 29.1 innings. Fellow pitcher Tyler Michalek added 35 innings of work, compiling a 3.35 ERA and 39 strikeouts. Both arms were instrumental in the Bears’ pitching success, with Dorsey leading the league in ERA during NEWMAC play and Michalek delivering reliable starts throughout the schedule.
The recognition underscores the program’s upward trajectory and sets a strong foundation for the upcoming seasons. With a blend of veteran leadership and emerging talent, the Coast Guard baseball team looks poised to build on its recent achievements and compete at even higher levels in the future.
