A Promising Forward Joins UConn and National Squad
Colben Landrew, a 6‑foot‑6 small forward from Alabama, has officially pledged to the University of Connecticut’s men’s basketball program, bringing a blend of size, skill and athleticism to the Huskies.
Just weeks after his commitment, Landrew received a call‑up to the USA Basketball Men’s U18 National Team, earning a place on the roster that will travel to Leon, Mexico, for the 2026 FIBA U18 Men’s AmeriCup, scheduled for June 1‑7.
Standing at 6‑foot‑6 and weighing 235 pounds, Landrew is ranked 25th overall in the Class of 2026 by 247Sports, a testament to his rapid ascent from a high‑school standout at Wheeler High in Georgia to a national prospect.
His high school career was played under the guidance of coaches at Wheeler, where he also excelled in football, showcasing the kind of physicality that has attracted attention from college programs across the country.
The recruitment process culminated in a mid‑October commitment after an official visit to Storrs, where Landrew met with UConn’s coaching staff, including head coach Nate Oats and assistant Anthony Grant, both of whom expressed confidence in his potential to contribute immediately.
Next season, Landrew is expected to battle rising senior Jayden Ross for the starting small forward position, a competition that could reshape the Huskies’ frontcourt rotation and add depth to their perimeter defense.
Beyond college, his participation in the AmeriCup will see him share the court with other elite prospects, offering a preview of the talent that could define the next generation of American basketball talent.
USA Basketball, UConn’s athletic department and FIBA will all be watching closely as Landrew attempts to translate his collegiate promise into international success.
