Will Soloway, a rising junior on the Colby Men’s Ice Hockey team, is spending this summer interning with Princeton University’s Men’s Ice Hockey program, a partnership that blends his passion for the sport with a deep dive into analytics and strategy.
A Summer of Learning
Under the guidance of head coach Ben Syer and assistants Dan Henningson, Shane Talarico and Connor Jones, Soloway tackles video breakdowns, scouting reports and data-driven performance reviews, helping the Tigers pinpoint strengths and weaknesses from the previous season.
The internship places him inside the historic Hobey Baker Memorial Rink, the oldest Division I college arena still in use, where the blend of tradition and modern technology creates a unique learning environment.
Bringing Knowledge Home
Soloway says the experience has been rewarding, noting that the daily collaboration with seasoned coaches has sharpened his understanding of how a successful hockey program is built from the ground up.
He hopes to translate those insights back to Colby, where he plans to introduce new analytical approaches and scouting techniques that could elevate the Mules’ performance on the ice.

By the end of the internship, Soloway expects to carry fresh perspectives to Waterville, Maine, where he will apply the data‑centric mindset to the Colby roster, aiming to close gaps identified in last season’s play and to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
