Colby Turner of the University of Michigan has added another accolade to a breakout season, being named to the All-America third team by the American Baseball Coaches Association and Rawlings just days after his first All-America selection.
The sophomore second baseman topped the Wolverines in every major offensive metric, batting .366 with a 1.057 OPS, stealing 12 bases and delivering 55 RBI while crossing the plate 57 times. His 24-game hitting streak from March 21 to April 26 stands as the longest in program history since the turn of the millennium.
Turner’s impact extended beyond raw numbers; he ranked fifth in the Big Ten with a .371 average in conference play and helped the team secure crucial wins throughout the schedule.
A Milestone in Michigan Baseball History
What makes the achievement especially notable is the historical context. He is the first Michigan player since Jordan Brewer in 2019 to collect multiple All-America honors and only the eleventh Wolverine ever to earn ABCA third-team recognition.
Turner also joins an exclusive club as the fifth second baseman in school history to be selected for an ABCA All-America squad, and he stands as the second player ever to earn two All-America nods in a single season, a feat last accomplished by Jeff Jacobson in 1982.
The recognition underscores the program’s resurgence and highlights the collaborative effort behind the scenes, from the University of Michigan’s athletic department to the American Baseball Coaches Association and the National College Baseball Writers Association, which also list Turner among its honorees.
The accolades not only cement Turner’s place in the annals of Michigan baseball but also signal a promising future for the program as it continues to develop talent capable of competing at the national level.
